Anti Aging Creams

There are so many different kinds of anti aging creams. But what makes them different? And do you need all of them?

You can’t watch TV or read a magazine without being bombarded by ads for various anti-aging products. And many of them are different with different purposes. I’ll explain a few of them below.

old advertisement

Face Cleansers

One product that everyone, men and women, needs is a face cleanser. Soap is drying and can’t give your face the moisture it needs. A face cleanser often contains moisturizing and anti-aging ingredients.

Eye Creams

Eye creams are important because the skin around your eye is very thin. As you age, you will develop eye wrinkles and perhaps dark circles. A quality eye cream can help diminish the appearance of both.

Skin Lighteners & Brighteners

You may have noticed that your skin is dull or not as bright as before. Or perhaps you’ve noticed age spots developing on your skin. If so, you may want to invest in some skin lighteners or brighteners. These products use ingredients like kojic acid to lighten the dark spots on your skin. You may not need these types of products.

Anti Aging Serum

Serums are designed to help your skin produce more collagen. As you age, so does the amount of collagen in your skin. Serum can help stimulate the production of more, plus increase cell turnover and boost skin tone.

Day and Night Creams

These are moisturizers that help give your skin the moisture it may need. Night creams are usually thicker and help keep your skin from loosing the moisture that naturally occurs while you sleep. Day creams should contain sunscreen. That way, your face is protected even if you choose not to use additional sunscreen. Choose creams that contain Visit the Antiaging Forums. Anti-Aging Nutrients

As you age, the nutrients your body needs changes as well. Some, nutrients, the body doesn’t process as efficiently. Others, help keep your body looking and feeling good. Some of these important nutrients are listed below.

citrus fruit

Antioxidants – Vitamins A, C and E are some of the best known antioxidants. You can get these in fruits and vegetables that have a deep yellow, orange or red color. Citrus fruits aren’t the only source of vitamin C. Dark green leafy vegetables also contain lots of antioxidants. They can improve your immune system and help protect your against stroke and heart disease.Vitamin D – There has been some research to suggest that everyone could use more vitamin D. Most people think of calcium as the main nutrient to protect against osteoporosis, but vitamin D is just as important. Your body can’t process the vitamin D from the sun as efficiently as you age so you may need a supplement.B Vitamins – especially B6, B12 and folic acid. Check your cereal and your multivitamin. Most people tend to get enough folic acid. As you age, you need more B vitamins. B12 is difficult to get if you are a vegan. Be sure to take a supplement. Studies have suggested that B vitamins help ward off depression and contribute to energy and heath and B12 is shown to help with brain functions.Calcium – Most people realize that they need calcium, particularly women, to help combat osteoporosis. But dairy products aren’t the only way to go. Dark green leafy vegetables are loaded with calcium. Try some like spinach or kale.spinach

But don’t just focus on these specific nutrients. You need a balanced diet of vitamins and minerals in order to be healthy and fit. Amino acids and fatty acids like omega 3 and 6 are also necessary. Check with your doctor if you are uncertain as to which anti-aging nutrients you may need.

Eating a balance diet and avoiding sugar will help keep your body and mind functioning smoothly as you age.

Face Cleansers

The first step to a beautiful complexion is to use face cleansers each morning and evening. What? You may be saying – two times a day? Absolutely! You want to wash your face in the morning to remove oils that may have come to the surface during the night and in the evening to take off the make up and dirt that has accumulated.

soap

Some of my readers and friends have said that they just don’t have time in the evening to wash their face. That is a big mistake. Research has suggested that you age 7 days for each day you go to bed with your make up on.

Another mistake is using soap. And while soap is cheap and easy, it can also be drying to your skin. Your skin will improve if you use face cleansers.

But with so many facial cleansers on the market, which should you choose? Plus, everyone’s skin is a little different. I’ve listed a few suggestions that may help you to get started. If you click on a link and make a purchase, I will get a small commission. That’s what keeps this website up and running.

American Academy of Antiaging Medicine

better sleep ad link

If you’ve thought about seeing an antiaging physician then you may be familiar with the American Academy of Antiaging Medicine. With such a long name it’s no wonder they took the initials A4M as their logo.

A4M logo

The A4M was founded in 1992 by Dr. Robert Goldman and Dr. Ronald Klatz. It is a non-profit organization that seeks to train professionals and advance the science of anti-aging medicine. Today, the A4M website states that there are over 22,000 members in 105 different countries who belong to the association.

The organization sponsors conferences and provides information to physicians, scientists, researchers and the general public. The founders have written several books, some of which are reviewed elsewhere on this website.

The A4M advocates a healthy lifestyle including, good nutrition, avoiding smoking, moderate alcohol consumption, avoiding stress, maintaining an active social life and exercise, to name just a few.

While the A4M does not promote or endorse any specific treatment or commercial products, it does provide information of treatments that are available and argues that those who follow their recommendations can live to be 150 years old. They also predict that in the future lifespans will increase to 200 years old in within the next 1000 years. Dr. Klatz has stated that emerging technologies and future discoveries will be responsible for the lengthening lifespans.

Whether or not you agree with the philosophy of the A4M, they have done an excellent job of promoting antiaging medicine and have provided research into this relatively new field of medicine. You can read more about the American Academy of Antiaging Medicine on their website.

Facial Skin Care Products

Giving yourself a facial? There are many facial skin care products on the market and you can even make your own. The important thing to remember is to use products that contain antiaging ingredients.

You’ll find products that claim to be natural. Others have organic ingredients. Still others claim to be the best on the market. We all have different types of skin with different needs. Some skin is more sensitive, while others can use almost anything. But even for those who don’t seem to have any special skin care needs, choosing wisely will improve your skin.

Many people have sensitivities to artificial dyes and fragrances. So stay away from those. Alcohol, mineral oil and parabens are other questionable ingredients.
To give yourself a facial, you’ll need a cleanser, toner, mask and moisturizer. There are different kinds of facial skin care products when considering masks. There are clay masks, mud masks, peel off, rinse off and moisturizer masks. The choice is yours. My favorite mask is a Sea Mud Face and Body Mask from Arbonne International. But there are other good ones too. Remember to read the labels.
One cleanser is a rose cream cleanser. You can buy the ingredients at the grocery store and health food store. To make the rose cream cleanser, combine 1 tbsp sour cream, 1 tsp rose hydrosol and 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil. Stir well and apply to face and neck areas. This cleanser should be used within 2 days.
You can make your own toner using 1 cup distilled water, 1 tbsp dried green tea leaves, 1tbsp dried chamomile flowers, 1 tbsp rose hydrosol, 1 tbsp Aloe Vera gel and 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar. Heat the distilled water until boiling. Remove from heat and add green tea and chamomile flowers. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then strain. Add the remaining ingredients and stir or shake well. Store in a clean bottle and use within 3 weeks.
Want to make your own masks? You can use fruit, oatmeal or milk as a basis for your own natural masks. But if you don’t want to go to all that trouble or just can’t imagine smearing oatmeal on your face, remember to read the ingredients before choosing your own facial skin care products.

Anti-aging Diet

wheat

As we plan our anti-aging diet, one area that needs discussion is grains. The “invention” of white bread did nothing to help our health. Refined grains are empty of nutrients, lack fiber and raise blood sugar levels immediately after eating them.

Instead, choose whole grains for fiber and anti-aging nutrients. If you are buying prepared breads, read the ingredients. The ingredients must say 100% whole wheat or whole grain. Just because it looks like whole wheat, it could just be colored with carmel color (another ingredient that we could do without).

I prefer to buy bread from a bakery that uses whole grains and no preservatives. I have to keep it in the freezer, but it’s full of nutrition. You can also make your own bread. Check out my nutrition store if you don’t have access to whole grains locally.

All whole grains are good for you, but some have additional benefits.

You know that oatmeal is good for you, but stay away from the instant sugared oatmeal. Instead, choose old-fashioned oats. They help lower cholesterol and keep you feeling full for hours. In addition to rolled oats, you can also eat whole oat groats. These make great granolas and can even be cooked and used in place of rice. This grain is very high in fiber and a source of antioxidants. You can buy pearl barley which is most often used is soups. However, hulled barley still has the outer bran. This is the beneficial part of the grain.

Anti-aging Diet Tip – add more whole grains to your diet

This is a grain that is fairly new to me. I’ve just started experimenting with recipes. This grain is gluten-free so if you have a gluten allergy, give it a try. It is pronounced “keen-wah” and has been grown for years around the world. It cooks quickly and can be used in place of other grains.

Buckwheat is actually a seed, not a “real” grain. However, it can be used as a grain in cooking. Most of us are familiar with buckwheat pancakes. Buckwheat is an antioxidant and is higher in vitamins and minerals than other grains.

flaxseeds

This is another seed that can be used in cooking. When ground, flaxseed can be sprinkled on cereals, smoothies or salads. It can also be added to muffins or other baked goods. Flaxseed is a great source of omega-3 fats. If you don’t like fish, or live a vegan lifestyle, flaxseed is a good option for you.

If you’ve never tried any of these grains, pick up one or more at your local grocery or health food store. Try one of the whole grain recipes in the anti-aging recipe section if you aren’t sure what to do with them. Adding these whole grains to your anti-aging diet will increase your fiber intake and keep you feeling full longer.

What Causes Hair Loss

retirement income ad

One issue that men, and some women, struggle with as they age is thinning hair. But what causes hair loss? Can anything be done to keep that full head of hair? As I am not an expert in this field, I turned to people who are. The experts at Bosley, a hair restoration firm with offices all over the U.S. and Mexico, have provided me with some answers to my questions about hair loss. man with thinning hair

Hair loss or baldness is a genetic trait, but how much of it is genetic, varies from one individual to another. Hair loss with genetic predisposition is called “androgenetic alopecia” or “male pattern baldness”.

Factors such as a person’s activities, diet, medications, natural hormones, improper hair care and certain diseases can contribute to hair loss, but these factors may affect an individual more than another. While chemical treatments, pollution, hair-styling products and blow-drying have not been found to directly cause hair loss, they can dry and weaken hair, increasing breakage and perpetuating hair loss.

The lack of good blood circulation to the scalp may also contribute to hair loss. When the hair root is well supplied with blood it is stronger and less susceptible to the shrinking effects caused by hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone). Good blood flow strengthens and rejuvenates the small blood vessels in the scalp. Stronger blood vessels Increases the longevity of the hair follicles especially in thinning areas and encourages hair growth.

Finally, you cannot fight the effects of aging. As you age, your hairs tend to break more easily, and hair follicles do not grow as much hair.

woman thinking

Many of the factors are the same for women as for men, however there are a few additional factors. Pregnancy and childbirth plus the use of birth control pills can possibly contribute to thinning hair. In addition, women tend to use more hair products and styling devices. As mentioned above, while these do not directly contribute to hair loss, they can weaken and dry your hair.

Bosley didn’t cite any specific examples, but a change in diet may help limit your hair loss.

There are a variety of vitamins and minerals that should be included in your daily diet in order to help reduce the loss of hair. When your diet is lacking in water may also help. Basically, the foods necessary to achieve healthy hair are the same that are necessary for overall body health.

Men have a tendency to eat more fatty food, such as junk food, fast food and more red meat. For these men, simply altering their diet to include healthy foods and reducing intake of sweets and fatty food, can decrease the amount of hair loss they experience and improve overall health.

Saw palmetto is a popular herbal remedy used for hair loss. It it thought to block testosterone from being converted to another hormone. However, there are no clinical studies to show that saw palmetto really works. A small study did show promising results but it was too small to give an accurate picture.

No matter what causes hair loss, thinning hair definitely makes you look older. Although nothing can be done about the genetic factors, you can minimize the natural factors by eating a healthy diet and exercising.

Anti-Aging Secrets

alkaline diet ad link

Many people are out to find the latest and best information on anti-aging, but in reality there really are no anti-aging secrets.

There are five steps (or secrets if you will) to keep looking and feeling younger than you are as you age. They really aren’t secrets. You’ll see them in articles, mentioned on the news and written about in books. These are my 5 secrets to staying you.

child playing

It’s all in the attitude. If you are depressed about what you see in the mirror, upset about how things are going at work, or bored with your life, you’ll age faster. Worried about aging? That will age you faster. Instead, have FUN! Go out with friends, don’t worry about what other people think (they probably aren’t thinking about you at all), play games. Nothing will keep you feeling you like playing. Don’t have time? Make time!

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.” George Bernard Shaw

This is the next real problem. Stress is very hard on a person, more than you may realize. Play will help to reduce stress, but there are lots of other ways to reduce stress including getting enough sleep

This means more vegetables and fruits. Stay away from sugar. Eat a lot less meat. You don’t have to be a vegetarian, but having several meatless meals a week will help. Not sure what foods to include? Check out this list of anti-aging foods. healthy living sign

Every antiaging book that I’ve read have one thing in common. Exercise. Exercise helps keep you blood pressure low. It can help control diabetes. It can keep your weight down. It can lift depression. There are many benefits to exercise. And every one of them contribute to helping you feel better, stronger and younger.

This is listed last because if you eat junk, don’t exercise, worry all the time and are stressed out, no amount of skin care is going to help you. It may help a little but won’t give you the effect you desire. If you follow the above tips, then antiaging skin care will help your skin glow and have a more youthful appearance.

That’s it! Five anti-aging secrets to help you look and feel your best.
